Steve Nash: “Hopefully I can play by Christmas”

The Lakers may be close to getting all their stars on the court at once. Then we can finally see how good (or not) this team actually is.

Pau Gasol could return on Tuesday and now Steve Nash thinks he could be back on the court in time for the Lakers Christmas Day rematch with the New York Knicks.

From the twitter of Laker.com reporter Mike Trudell:

In the Lakers second game of the season against the Trail Blazers, Nash suffered a small fracture of the leg that was supposed to heal quickly. But that led to a nerve irritation in the area and he has been out ever since.

Because this has been slow to heal Lakers fans may not want to get their hopes up too high on him being back in time for Christmas Day. But if not then it sounds like it would be soon after.

Nash doesn’t solve all the Lakers problems — he’s not going to be a defensive stopper or help defensive rotations, he’s not instantly going to make the Lakers shooters consistent. But he’s a piece of the puzzle, along with Pau Gasol and how the Lakers eventually play in the Mike D’Antoni system.

Once all the pieces are in place the Lakers can see how they fit together and decide their next move.

That may happen by Christmas.
