Report: Goran Dragic’s representatives tell Suns he has no plans to re-sign, prefers Lakers, Knicks, Heat

There have been several conflicting reports about the Suns’ intentions with Goran Dragic at the trade deadline.

He’s apparently trying to make Phoenix’s choice simple.

Sam Amick of USA Today:
Goran Dragic wants out of Phoenix.
According to two people with knowledge of the situation, the representatives for the Suns point guard told team officials in a Tuesday meeting that he has no plans to re-sign in Phoenix this summer as a free agent.
The main issue, according to one of the people, is that Dragic wants to run his own team with the kind of freedom and support given to someone like Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:

Dragic obviously can’t force the Suns to trade him to the Lakers, Heat or Knicks – or trade him at all. But if he pledges to re-sign with those teams this summer, that should increase how much they offer Phoenix.

The Lakers were reportedly already interested, and so were the Heat. Don’t rule out other teams, like the Rockets, either – but it should concern them they didn’t make Dragic’s list of desired destinations.
It’s also possible Phoenix plays hardball and dares Dragic to turn down a bigger offer this summer. But with Eric Bledsoe and Isaiah Thomas under contract – incidentally the source of some of Dragic’s discontent – the Suns are probably better off trading Dragic. This is a chance for Suns general manager Ryan McDonough to balance his roster.

Phoenix wouldn’t be operating from a position of strength, but Dragic is still a very good player. Expect the Suns to get solid offers in the next couple days – and take the best of them.
